Find A Babysitter
If you are in need of a nice night out but can’t leave the little ones alone, then you will need to find a babysitter for the evening. This can really seem like an overwhelming process in the beginning. After all, you have to be sure to find the perfect person to care for your child while you are away. You will need someone that you can trust, someone that is responsible, and someone that is nurturing and caring towards your precious child or children.
Going outside the realm of close friends and family members can be frightening at first, but it doesn’t have to be. If you have friends and neighbors with young children, this can be a wonderful way to begin your search. Ask around to see if you can get any recommendations from the people that you already know and respect. Chances are, they will be able to point you in the right direction by giving you some information about a person or agency that they have used in the past and had a good experience with.
Sometimes it won’t always be that easy. In that case, it would be a good idea to take your search to the local yellow pages in the phone book. Begin your search under “child care”.
Once you have contacted a potential babysitter from the agency, be sure to interview them over the phone initially. Ask them all the important questions, such as pricing, their past experience, if they are CPR certified, and if they can provide both personal and professional references.
Once you have gotten the references from the person or agency, now you can take a moment to contact them and ask any additional questions that you may have. Ask the person if they were satisfied with the service that they received in the past, and what the pros and cons of hiring that person or agency were. The answers to these questions will be an important part of helping you to make your decision.
If you decide to proceed with the person or agency, the next step is to arrange for an in person meeting between the potential babysitter and your family. This can be a simple, short interview where you can see if you and your family are able to connect with the sitter. Keep an eye on how the children interact with the person as well.
Be sure to consult with your children before making any decisions or hiring. Ask the children if they felt comfortable around the person, and if they would enjoy having the person in the home while you are away.
If you and the children are both happy and comfortable with the person you have interviewed, then you have made it past the hard part! This is wonderful news, give yourself a pat on the back. All that is left to do is to make a quick and easy phone call to the person or agency and confirm that you would like to have them as your babysitter!
